ABOUT HALO HAIR STUDIO

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Hi Everyone, my name is Carmen Atchison, I'm the owner of Halo Hair Studio.

I'm a native of Guilford County, went to Colfax Elementary and Northwest High School. I grew up on a family tobacco farm where the only work we knew was hard. Most of my family, including aunts, uncles, lots and lots of cousins and friends still live in this area we are proud to call home.

Here is the story of how HALO came to be...

After an Uncle returned from the military he enrolled in a local cosmetology school. After graduating and several years later, he met his wife who also became a hairdresser. They eventually owned 2 successful salons. His was located in High Point and hers in Thomasville.

After studying photography and accounting at a local community college and at the constant encouragement of my father, due to the success of his brother, I decided to enroll in cosmetology school where one of my semi-retired cousins taught. Since she also lived on the family farm, we could ride to school together.

Over the years, I've worked at several of the largest salons in Greensboro, but mainly stayed near the Guilford College area. Several years after I left this one salon in particular, I decided to go back. Within a year and a half, the owner passed away from colon cancer, her husband had no choice but to close the salon.

After hearing the devastating news and trying to decide what to do next, my two sisters persuaded me to purchase a property and open a salon. Within two months, I found a property and closed the deal. The property had an 8 month lease intact, which I have to honor plus it worked out to my advantage...it gave me extra money for the renovations and time to think my project through.

On June 30, 2014, the tenant moved out. The renovations began on July 1st and Halo Hair Studio opened its doors on August 4th.

Besides from the support and help from ALL my family and friends, there's a couple people I want to mention who have no idea how important they were in my success...

The late James Shepherd for giving this Mohawk (at the time) wearing girl her start.

The late Ann Collins for showing me you can be cute and tough.

Richard Massaroni for handling the renovations and would not accept compensation.

We hope you enjoy your visit to Halo as much as we enjoy working here!
